Thanks for your compliments, Laurel. Peter is a writer and a friend from where we're from, Gloucester, MA. In the drawing he's reading from a book he wrote of local stories called, "A Walker in the City." I did the illustration for the cover of that book which can be seen in my images by the same title. The book illustration is done in ink, whereas this portrait of him is all pencil. I really love the extreme variety of textures pencil can do. I wrote an article for Artist Magazine back in 85' which spoke of the huge amount of time and effort that can go into a detailed drawing like I do and how the market prices don't compare with other mediums like oils or watercolors, which is a shame.

Peter, MASTERFUL,!! Love the hands! So difficult to achieve this level of translucency in youth and old age skin textures! The shadows, level upon level of details/composition mastery...I could ramble on! VOTED and wish you all of the best!
James Oliver replied:
Thank you, Laurel. I appreciate this. Peter just passed away last month, which has taken many of us by surprise.
